Even Pressure Distribution & Bidirectional Rotation

Multi-spring mechanical seals are designed to deliver highly stable, balanced sealing performance in high-speed, high-pressure industrial pumps. Unlike single coil spring configurations that apply force from a single large spring, multi-spring seals utilize a series of small, equally spaced coil springs positioned circumferentially around the shaft. This distributes mechanical load evenly over the dynamic seal face, compensating for minor angular misalignment or shaft runout.

Micro Engineering manufactures precision multi-spring seals using chemically resistant springs in SS316 or Hastelloy-C. The multi-spring arrangement has a much shorter axial footprint than single coil designs, allowing it to fit into tight pump stuffing boxes and cartridge sleeves. Because the springs do not rely on shaft rotation direction to maintain compression, the seal operates bidirectionally, making it highly versatile for diverse process pump types.

Highly recommended for high-speed centrifugal pumps, chemical processing loops, hydrocarbons, and clean boiler feed lines.

Features & Benefits

Multi-spring structural mechanics supporting reliable, high-speed shaft containment.

Uniform Face Loading

Multiple circumferentially arranged coil springs distribute load evenly, preventing face distortion and extending face wear life.

Axially Compact

Shallow spring cavities require minimal axial spacing, making these seals ideal for small stuffing boxes and short shaft sleeves.

Bidirectional Rotation

Unlike single coil spring configurations which are rotation-direction dependent, multi-spring designs operate safely in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions.

Misalignment Tolerance

The cluster of independent small springs absorbs angular shaft deflection and dynamic vibrations, maintaining constant face-to-face contact.

Operational Parameters Comparison

Comparing Multi-Spring Mechanical Seals against Single Coil Spring Mechanical Seals.

Parameters Multi-Spring Seals Single Coil Spring Seals
Spring Load Distribution Highly uniform (multiple small springs around circumference). Concentrated (one heavy helical coil spring).
Axial Space Requirement Extremely compact (fits in shallow stuffing boxes). Longer axial length required.
Rotation Dependency Bidirectional (independent of shaft rotation direction). Unidirectional (requires right/left-hand matching coil).
Slurry & Clogging Resistance Moderate (springs can accumulate suspended solids). Excellent (thick coil profile resists clog and build-up).
High-Speed Performance Excellent (spring forces remain stable under high speed). Moderate (potential coil distortion at high RPM).
Load Adjustability High (spring force adjusted by changing spring count). Low (limited to coil pitch and wire diameter).

Why Choose Our Multi Spring Seals?

Micro Engineering manufactures precision-engineered multi-spring mechanical seals to ensure stable loading and long wear life on high-speed pump shafts.

Hastelloy-C Springs Option

We offer corrosion-resistant Hastelloy-C or SS316 springs to prevent chloride stress corrosion cracking and spring fatigue.

Lapped to 1 Light Band

Dynamic faces undergo strict optical flat testing under monochromatic helium light, ensuring zero-leak startup.

Interchangeable Spring Sets

Spring sets are manufactured to high precision tolerances, guaranteeing identical compression rates across the circumference.

Solid Face Materials

Dynamic faces are machined from solid, high-purity materials (sintered silicon carbide and carbon-graphite) without binders.
